What to target in Twilight Masquerade

The top 10 cards are 66% of the set’s $1,186.00 estimated singles cost — plan these first and the rest follows on a normal budget.

Value here is top-heavy and honest about it — a large share of the set's total cost lives in a handful of cards, and Greninja ex sits at the peak of that pile. It's the rare case where the most expensive card is also the most loved: people genuinely want the Greninja SIR, they aren't just holding it because it's scarce. Perrin is the other pillar, and unlike a lot of trainer SIRs it earns its keep on artwork alone. Below those two, the drop is steep and the field flattens out fast.

The interesting middle is where taste diverges from cost. Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex is the one card that carries both competitive relevance and a gorgeous SIR, so it draws two crowds at once. The regular Illustration Rares — Eevee, Chansey, Hisuian Growlithe — punch above their rarity because the art is the point, and they're the affordable entry into the set's aesthetic. Carmine, Kieran, Lana's Aid, and Sinistcha ex round out the SIR run as solid pickups that cost real money without ever becoming true chases. If you're buying for love rather than resale, the IR tier is the sweet spot; if you want the trophy, it's Greninja and nothing else.

How Twilight Masquerade is built

The smart way to complete Twilight Masquerade

Twilight Masquerade is a Medium-difficulty master set, which for the SV era means the base set fills in quickly from any reasonable amount of product and the pain lives entirely in the 59-card secret tier. The smart approach is to treat the commons, uncommons, and regular rares as a solved problem — bulk lots or a bit of pack opening will get you there — and spend your actual budget deliberately on the illustration and special illustration rares. Because the cost is so concentrated, hunting the two top cards last (when you can shop them as clean singles) usually beats gambling on packs to hit them.

Singles or sealed?

Twilight Masquerade is a set where the sealed-versus-singles decision hinges on what you actually want out of it. If the goal is Greninja ex or a specific trainer SIR, singles win almost every time — the pull odds on any one hit are long, and buying the exact card you want removes the variance entirely. Sealed makes sense here for two reasons only: you enjoy the ritual of opening a genuinely good-looking set, or you're building the base set and want the bulk to fill it. The live math on this page shows the gap for your target, but as a rule, chasing one specific card through packs is the expensive road.

Which Twilight Masquerade cards are worth grading?

Grading here pays off almost exclusively at the top of the set. Greninja ex is the obvious candidate — demand is broad enough and the ceiling high enough that a clean gem clears fees comfortably, and it's the card most worth submitting. Perrin follows for the same reason: real collector demand backing the grade. Below those, the regular Illustration Rares like Chansey and Eevee, plus Tatsugiri, can justify grading when you already have a pristine copy, but the margin is thin and centering has to cooperate.

The practical warning is the era's fragility. SV-era holo surfaces scratch and whiten easily, and centering on the full-art and special illustration cards is inconsistent straight from the pack, so the gap between a gem and a near-miss is brutal on these. Grade the top cards only if the raw copy is genuinely clean under a loupe — surface, edges, and centering all have to line up before the fee makes sense.

Where Twilight Masquerade goes from here

Twilight Masquerade is still recent and was printed in the high volumes typical of modern Scarlet & Violet sets, so sealed supply is ample and there's no scarcity story to lean on in the near term. Reprint risk for the individual cards is low in the traditional sense — Pokémon rarely reprints a set's exact SIRs — but the sheer print run means the market won't tighten quickly. What sustains interest here is the artwork, and specifically Greninja: character- and art-driven demand tends to age better than competitive hype once cards rotate out of play.

The honest read is that this is a set to buy for the cards you love, not as a play for appreciation. The top two chases have the demand profile to hold value over time, and the regular Illustration Rares are cheap enough that downside is limited. The broad middle of the secret tier is where modern sets tend to soften, so don't expect the full SIR run to move as one. As always, collect what you love — that's the version of this bet that never disappoints.

Not financial advice — live prices and trends are above, collect what you love.
